Tattoo Files: Wrists and Arms

Some new tattoo designs I came across that caught my eye for one reason or another. Given the right design, wrists and arms seem like a good place to get inked. View original sources below and stay tuned for future files from this here un-inked little lady.

Vintage 60's Industrial Shop Chairs

Someone seriously needs to purchase these vintage industrial shop chairs I found on Etsy this past week. They've been dangerously eating at me ever since I laid eyes on them - aren't they just gorgeous? I think they'd be perfect in an open floor plan, used as bar stools, or addition to an artist's studio. I've seen so many similar remakes cropping up across mainstream retail - but you just can't beat the real deal.

The description even notes that they've been kept in a temperature controlled storage unit since their production - sigh. I'm seeing another case of "non-buyer's remorse" in my future...

Take a Break With Gifted Magazine

One of my favorite indulgences is curling up on the sofa with a glass of red and my latest magazine. I'm the type that likes to read the entire issue in one sitting - it feels like such a treat.

Earlier this week I was delightfully surprised to see the launch of Creature Comfort's online holiday magazine and gift guide, Gifted. It's chock full of Etsy designers, new bloggers I could add to my reader, holiday gift ideas for everyone, DIY projects, tutorials, and simply inspiring images all around - the whole piece of work is an obvious labor of love and just visually pleasing to *virtually* page through.

If you need a diversion throughout the day today or if you're more like me and want to take it all in at once - Gifted will make for an unexpectedly nice weekend read just in time for holiday inspiration and planning.

Trendspotting: Blazers are Back

I've never been a blazer kind of gal, but I'm starting to wonder if this just might be the year.
Piggybacking on the menswear looks trending as of late, these simple cuts and clean lines might sway me into the land of the fashionably preppy.

Tattoo Files: Script

Here's the thing, I don't have any tattoos, nor am I planning to get one anytime soon if ever. While I consider myself a loyal person in many senses of the word, I go through phases of adoration/intolerance more regularly than I'd like to admit.

In any case, I'm in continual admiration of those who I feel for one reason or another have essentially gotten it right. Meaning, if I were them, I'd think that tattoo could keep me happy for a lifetime. I have a great deal of respect for these people who got it right and maybe even a little envy of their fearlessness.

The script tattoos listed above are swoon-worthy in my book. Click each image for their original origin and stay tuned for future tattoo files from this here un-inked little lady.

Etsy's Offices

Did you get a chance to see the photos of Etsy's Brooklyn office space over on Apartment Therapy? As we grow bigger, I hear the space will be expanding too. Rumors of reclaimed hardwood floors and a rollerskating party to break them in before moving the furniture in were all abuzz in Brooklyn recently.

See the full set of photos and original architecture plans on the Hangar Design Group's site.

Antique Industrial Laundry Carts

As of late, industrial and commercial grade essentials of the past have been at the top of my decorating frame of mind. One detail I've been fixating on for months is an industrial size canvas laundry cart complete with casters. Not only would one be great for actually doing the laundry, but just think of all the unique storage solutions one of these babies could solve: bathroom towel display, cleaning supply cart, a magazine and afghan caddy for the family room...oh the possibilities.

Find a newer version in production carried at Restoration Hardware, or snag a rare antique original version right here on Etsy. Both versions have been made in the USA. Know where I can find more of these laundry carts? Let me know where in the comments, I'd love to take a longing look at other varieties.

Trendspotting: Etsy Designer Vintage

If you weren't in the know already, I want to let you in on one of Etsy's best kept shopping secrets: designer vintage fashion. Vintage looks have been topping the best dressed lists across red carpets this season and won't be going out of style anytime soon; think classic, rare, and timeless. It's practically a cat fight to the checkout button in the marketing corner of the Etsy office anytime one of us comes across a newly listed vintage designer bag, dress, pair of tall boots or pumps.

Find the full post on sniffing out the designer brands in Etsy Vintage along with a smattering of my current finds on Kaboodle.com.

How To: Recycled Laptop Sleeve Project

My coworker and friend, Jay, asked me to make him a laptop sleeve for his new MacBook Pro. Having never made one before, I told him "Of course, I'm sure I can figure it out..."
So, that's what I did. Using vintage upholstery fabric from my collection and portions of a large coffee sack Tim brought me from Blanchard's Coffee, I fashioned my first laptop sleeve.

I went about it by ironing fusible interfacing in between the two layers of fabric to keep the sleeve smooth and durable. After a simple edging and right side out rectangle sewing through the trusty Singer machine, I attached a strap recycled from the fabric scraps and hand sewed on a couple of vintage metal snaps.
While I don't think laptop sleeves will be a regular thing for me, it was inspiring to try something new and rewarding to make a tangible reality out of a vision in my head.

Antique Egg Scale

Among other industrial farm related equipment that keeps cropping up on the trend radar, these vintage egg scales are so captivating to me. A tool in which I'm sure was used routinely at farmer's markets, I guess we just take "egg size" for granted nowadays with the cookie cutter grades we're accustomed to. Needless to say, I'm itching to get my hands on one of these "jiffy-way" versions.

Being that today is a day often symbolized by the egg, I had fun learning something new about the different types there are out there to choose from in our own groceries and markets. See E.A.T.'s latest post all about the egg.

Oxford Inspiration via Etsy

In tune with the menswear kick I've found myself touting, one particular element keeps teasing my fancy: the oxford. I'm enthralled with the diverse varieties and takes on this shoe style, especially the transitional appeal they seem to carry from one season to the next. Today's collection was inspired by the larger menswear Etsy Finds collection I curated over on Etsy's blog today.

Curious Medical Antiques: Vecabé Dental Model

I stumbled across this gem at the expense of the charming Allison's sick day. It's a french antique version of the dental model crafted from metal with fully removable enamel teeth. It's mind blowing the amount of time and meticulous craftsmanship that went into making a model of this variety dating back to the 1920's. I would be beyond thrilled to add one of these to my curiosities collection one day.

Find this and other antique medical rarities over at Phisick.
